Utawarerumono 2 #23 — Friendly Fire

March 12th, 2016

The only actual threat this week.

Or if anybody's going to remember that the masks exist.

Impressions:

Well, the budget did give a last gasp as it wasn't as embarrassingly terribly animated as, say, the Kuroh episode was, but the tone problems were all over the place, especially where Haku was concerned. It also speaks of something that the only things they fought were easily one-shot grunts, and aside from Kuon getting cornered and vaporizing a bunch of soldiers, because that's apparently something she can do, the most dangerous threat otherwise to them in the entire episode was friendly fire. And even that came approximately a minute in. Three episodes from the end, and this is what they've got.

The antagonist situation here is dreadful, and only got worse when they tried to pretend like one of the imbecile princesses was going to fight them and, I am not even goddamned exaggerating or kidding here, got bitch slapped by her bird and then had a friendship hug over Friendship Power. And then they did the exact goddamn thing a second time without the slap, but with defeating an entire corps of gruns by lightly tapping her weapon on the ground. And then a goddamned third time with her father. Thankfully, the Power of Montage was too much for that moment, so there was no dialogue at all… followed by after the ED played, and again, not exaggerating in the slightest, thirty goddamned six straight seconds of staring, before going into the next episode preview of… more staring.

maybe its because I did not play the game but I still don’t get why haku can’t use commands on decoys. yes rurutie stuff was not only stupid but also conspired with decopompo stuff to kill any tension the ongoing situation theoretically might have had
