Four Rhythms #05 and 06 — Deja Vu

March 21st, 2016

At least they add up to 11.

Impressions:

And our supposed protagonist has been kicked right back to the peanut gallery so we can make the exact same episode for about the fourth time, but even more identical than usual, just changing a couple details of who's grinning evilly or who wins thanks to the power of believing in themself and enjoying youth and whatever other abject crap they're spouting. The stakes are nonexistent. The characters simply exist. Nobody has any meaningful relationship with anybody else. So boy oh boy, is the big climax next week going to be a poofy fart of nothing.

Next Episode:

Totally different episode from before.

3 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

Not that it hasn’t been on a steady downward trajectory since the first two episodes, but the “stop having fun this is the perfect way to play” duo is way too unlikeable. Not even in the pro wrestling “this is an effective villain you want to see get beat up” sense. Any scene those two girls are in is worse than any scene they’re not in.

I really don’t understand what they’re supposed to be or contribute. There are these random scenes where it’s like “Look how they’re besties too!” but they don’t really interact with anybody else at all otherwise, even each other. And there’s nothing to really be gained from beating them either. Nor have they done anything shady or even slightly cruel that would make them heels. It’s just like… “dislike them because they’re really good, and enjoy winning to nearly a sexual way.”

But yes. This entire thing is a slow motion trainwreck that ironically never got off the ground.

  • The Phantom says:

The only funny part is how the male lead is a sideline cheerleader. Boring show otherwise, Love Elections and Chocolate was by no means a masterpiece, but damn that shows was several orders of magnitude better than this boringfest.
