Utawarerumono 2 #05 — Date Episode
October 31st, 2015
I miss the casual grisly murder of random villagers now.
Reminder, Daylight savings ends in the US tonight, which means that everything will be airing an hour earlier, relatively speaking. The only effect this might have for the blog is that I might cover Cavalry before my weekly social dog walk and pancake breakfast instead of after. Everything during the week still airs late enough to have to be done post-work.
Impressions:
I'll never understand how Japanese writers/directors put together scenes where characters spend the entire time going "I don't want to do this. This is stupid. I'm bored. This is tedious. This is dumb." There's a maxim in writing that goes something like "Are you showing the most interesting part of the characters' lives? If not, then why not?" What scares me is that they might be showing the most interesting part. Anyway, the first 9 minutes or so is drivel. After that, things somehow get worse when it devolves into mostly a date montage.
Your mileage will probably vary depending on how much the obnoxious new character that they introduced pisses you off. For me, it was a lot. She talks like she's touched in the head for one. And always through the nose. And always with an upward inflection at the end like an obnoxious, confused, sing-song balloon deflating. How does she drive things or make them interesting then? Well, she bumps into Haku and then spends the afternoon with him. They're chased by some archer… who they ignore, until someone else bumps into them and everything is resolved. Christ, guys. You could've done this entire episode in about 30 seconds before the OP played.

Well, they are still in the Introduction of Characters. I wonder when they begin to move the Story forward, or they stay now in this Capital forever?
