Aquarion Logos #13 — Transformation Montage

September 24th, 2015

Yeah, take that, giant, immobile, sky marble.

Impressions:

Perhaps we should've had a monster a little more badass than "large marble that sort of looks like an eye" and does something other than "sit there and get hit." And no, simply wiping a bunch of words/people/things out of existence doesn't give it that. Not that it would've stopped it from being corny, but like what may as well be this show's motto, the concept is betrayed by the execution. Well, I suppose it was probably betrayed by the long expository speech in the first third about how corrupt words are from our villain, which shocks Maia for some reason I couldn't adaquately explain.

This also leaves the show in a weird place, because this is only the halfway point, yet the day has been saved and the villains defeated… not that that's ever stopped a show from simply rehashing that I'm looking at you Symphogear. I guess from the closing 5 seconds, they're going to be focusing more on the Aquarion stuff instead of word stuff now? They'll need manufacture some new antagonists or promote Subete to lead status at any rate. Revenge against Akira/getting Maia back would be an improvement over "Space wizard is a prescriptivist," but they've got a lot of work ahead of them to re-establish some kind of antagonist factor here somewhere and better hope that there's not much sharing its day next season if I'm going to continue on with it.
