Maria the Virgin #07 — Blood!
February 22nd, 2015
 Â
That’s how you can tell this episode was super serious.
I need to go run some errands. I’ll get to Yatterman in a little bit.Â
Impressions:
This was the first episode where a battle actually felt like a battle instead of a bunch of kids chucking nerf weapons at each other. If they were willing to draw blood and a little light dismemberment though, then why have they been using the suction cup darts and foam swords until this point? The machine-gun fire of arrows and the complete turnaround of the battle after Maria yelled at them to stop for about 30 seconds were more than ridiculous enough to warrant a full-face eyeroll or three, so it’s not getting full points yet, but it’s still a dramatic step up from everything else it’s done so far.
Less convincing was the second half when they tried to get all emotional all over the place, in particular all the witches suddenly being besties with her, and Zeke too for that matter. She’s been a gag character so far, struggling to understand why humans would do anything but worship God, but like the witches, Maria apparently won her over because… she heard about something nice Maria did at some point? Go Protagonist Power?
Next Episode:
The goblins cometh.

While watching this episode I couldn’t help but think “man, I know just WHO is going to notice that people are dying and blood is being shed now!” and I wasn’t wrong.
About the rest…I’d tend to disagree, for reasons you don’t share, so let’s leave it at that.
