Absolute Duo #03 — Crazy Bunny

January 18th, 2015

Sure is easy to see where the effort went.

Impressions:

Another mixed bag with an awful first half and then sort of pulled things together to be kind of okay, but I wouldn’t go any higher than that. I suspect that if they had just punted on the first half entirely and focused all their efforts onto the teacher’s fight, it might have turned out better, but the first half was woeful enough as it is. Likewise, the whole thing with tits and her self-induced exercise amnesia and then managing to summon her giant sword just long enough to sort of jog with it a few feet was dumb, basically unanimated, and stuck out like a sore thumb as something I suspect that nobody wanted to include, but did so at either the behest of the higher ups or a misguided attempt to appease the almighty source.

Well, it also probably doesn’t help that the teacher’s motivation was just “I’m sadistic.” Not even any hint of a greater plot or anything. Simply “just cause.” The ‘main plot,’ as it were, was relegated to the same dream flashback as usual and then the last seconds. They did put some effort into the fight with bunny face, and it wasn’t overwhelmed by exposition and such, so it’s far from the worst thing trying to pass for action that I’ve seen this season. All the posing and godawful stills that it didn’t have were what made up almost the entirety of the fight montages that came before, which didn’t keep them from doing these big introductions to the mooks they immediately still’ed down either. However, it was still frequently broken up by chatting and the direction (choreography especially) didn’t do a very good job of creating much tension. As far as bipolar sadist rabbits go, I’ve certainly seen much better.

Next Episode:

Back to nothing.

where did you even get it?
obviously punch line was “it is my work”
so either she was an agent of some evil organization, either academy itself is an evil organization

How can they live with themselves? This is just so… bad. And recycling the same recycled flashback scene two times in the same episode…

  • The Phantom says:

We could use more characters like the teacher, this anime needs badly more psychos. What really pissed me off is that constant flashback about revenge, yea we know about it and we dont need to be reminded of it every freaking 15 minutes.

There is no saving grace here, male lead is bland, female lead is also bland, story is cliche copy/paste, this anime should be renamed Absolute Bland Duo.
