I don’t think that’s an effective pinning strategy.

Impressions:

Let’s check in with the least drekky of the three magical girlfriend shows to air so far (and two more to come! One later today!) and see if it’s still holding out. Well, not so much really, but at the same time, I wouldn’t move this from its throne on the pile of schlock. It’s probably because nobody’s accused anybody of being a rapist yet. Or how everyone’s simply competent like it ain’t no thang and they all understand and respect that about each other instead of being constantly insecure and turning every little thing into an excuse for a temper tantrum. Or maybe just mostly ditching the exposition slew and cliche/fetishy teachers this week. So I guess I’ll pin it on the characters being okayish in comparison to the world of slew.

It’s still very very badly missing any kind of plot or direction with these characters, something to challenge them and drive them toward some kind of goal greater than “show up to class,” so it’s far from average. Hopefully they’ll both get that going and subvert some cliches with the ditzy teacher based on the cliffhanger, but that might be leaving the comfort zone a little too much and scare someone. Still, it’s nowhere near the worst of its ilk so far this season. What high praise.
