Unlimited Blade Works #06 — We Didn’t Feel Like Animating Anything This Week

November 15th, 2014

Animating is hard.

Impressions:

The start of this episode just made me sad. I think it was Shirou trying to be badass with the goofy scarf wrapped around his mouth, the only thing they bothered to animate, followed by a very long very slow pan across the corner of a wall followed by the director just giving up entirely and going for “two people standing 15 feet apart, staring at each other like statues” and “shots of their profiles from 6 inches away” interspersed with shots of a street light. Then one animator said “Maybe this is dull. Why don’t we have the light flicker?” And they threw him a party and all went home at 9:30 am to do blow off a Filipino prostitute’s ass.

The rest of the episode didn’t fare much better. Christ. Even Caster showing up and displaying how awesome she was, the sole moment of supposed tension in the entire damn episode, was accomplished by… putting down a bunch of strings that kept people from moving. That was already the status quo, guys. Going from they’re not moving because we can’t be assed to animate anything to they’re not moving because we bothered to draw a few strings is not the tense scene you seem to think it is. And then… she touched him! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

  • Germanguy says:

This Japanese Samurai is new to me, i can not remember him appearing in the previous Fate/Stay Anime. Is he an addition to this new Universe or is my Memory full of Holes?

    • Aroduc says:

      Full of holes.

      • Germanguy says:

I see, then Caster is remote controlling the Master of him somehow

        • Aroduc says:

          Very full of holes.

        • Tolrin says:

Spoilers, I guess, but he’s the fake assassin summoned by caster herself. The real assassin only shows up in the heaven’s feel route. The previous anime adaptation was some kind of unholy amalgamation of all three stories, and didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but I believe this assassin showed up briefly for a fight with saber in it.

        • Germanguy says:

Thats perhaps my Memory did nor got any impression of him in my Fate/Stay cupboard. But i get a feeling there are other Servants that take Human Life force with force to collect Mana. There is someone beside Caster

  • Sanjuro says:

Caster has a sexy voice. How dare you criticise or notice anything else in an episode in which she speaks.

  • rimshot says:

Arrows are pointing at Archer because he’s an archer, it’s not animators’ fault you’re blind to visual humor. And Caster doesn’t have cooties, don’t be a baby.

    >went home at 9:30 am to do blow off a Filipino prostitute’s ass
    that was oddly specific…

  • ElevatorDreams says:

I doubt the animators have the time or money for prostitutes.

  • Afrosquirrel says:

The real problem was that this episode lacked a lovingly animated scene of Shinji getting punched in the face.
