Chaika #17 — Light Novel Magical Girlfriend Bingo

Because apparently we didn’t have enough cliches in the harem yet.
Briefly flipped through Parasyte’s latest episode. It was almost entirely teenage insecurity, setting up love triangles, and pulling people having a special sixth sense to just know stuff out of its ass before a singularly godawful cliffhanger. I’ve been let down and bored by its continued navel gazing over LN-esque the darkness within me am I human it sucks so much for me to know about what’s going on and that I keep effortlessly killing evil monsters for the last month and it looks to only have yet more navel gazing ahead for a long time to come. That and bad music. I’m getting off the ride.
Impressions:
At least here, I can laugh at the writing. Or maybe be horrified by it. This show was a lot more… not exactly fun, but at least not ridiculous when it was just them off having adventures. Ever since about episode 9 when it started trying to take itself seriously, things have been in steady decline. At least this episode didn’t have any expositional krakens or shocking reveals that will rock everything… which were neither shocking nor seem to have rocked even a pebble. But that just begs the question of “So what?”
I don’t have the slightest idea whatsoever what the point of the two named animal people that kept eating up screen time was supposed to be, or this bloody arc in general. Christ, the deadly ‘antagonist’ here was “a lot of easily killed monsters.” Wasn’t that also the power of one of the random throwaway guys of the B squad that literally this exact same group teamed up to fight against in like… episode 5? And the legendary lost super island had Gaz’s greatest most awesomest treasure ever… aka yet another girl to stuff in the harem? Who transforms into guns, but because they were going for a multiple bingo on the card, also has heterochromia, no emotions, and gigantic unwieldy twin tails.
At least they put slightly more effort into the animation this week and slightly less effort into vomiting all over the writing. That’s about as much faint praise for this episode as I can muster.
Next Episode:
Checking in with the B squad.

Yea, just turn your back on the guy while still having his daggers in close vicinity. BONES writing for this show has really gotten to that certain BONES crappy-ness that they tend to pull off.
