Trinity Seven #01 — Expositorium!

Because we can’t get enough info dumps!

FTP and I are having some… disagreements. Stuff’s uploading, just slowly.

Impressions:

Expositionriffic and then some. I can’t help but think a studio like Shaft or Silver Link would have been able to do a fantastic job with the initial fake world thing. Alas, Seven Arcs was apparently too busy making CGI hallways for the second half and all we got was a series of exceptionally tedious info dumps instead. It also doesn’t help that the central ‘conflict’ of the episode was resolved with some truly last-season level writing. “Dispel the crap you accidentally made and forget everything, or I’ll kill you.” “Oho. But what if I become a student?” I don’t even have the faintest idea how that solves anything or would even occur to him.

Fairly standard cliche riddled LN adaptation despite not being one. Transfer to magic school, tour of girls, protagonist with super dark powers within, yada yada yada. The protagonist has a couple moments… or at least more moments than most of the other protagonists this season, but that was mostly wandering around pantless for no reason, so I’ll just call that lingering memories of Horizon and the existence of a slightly different kind of joke in a season awash in poor comedies. The lead female already annoys me severely and makes me wish for her death. The monocle doesn’t help at all.

Given the studio, ruined world setting, and dead not-ghost magical not-girlfriend permanently attached to the protagonist’s hip, I’d love to make a comparison to Asura Cryin, but even its boring first episode was significantly less boring than this. Pick it up, Seven Arcs. I know you can do better than this.

OP here because blocked places and this is just easier for me.

Next Episode:

My precious.

Ironically, it isn’t even an LN adaption… not like it matters. Someone really dropped the timing on the comedy they had. And the timing on a lot of other stuff. The infodumps will stay to a degree, the mehhh plot solutions, too, and considering how they fuck up the timing, the funny and the epic will never shine. Then the budget runs out?

    Wishes for Sunrise/Shaft and a decent director…

I knew that at some point. I’m pretty sure I even noted it in my pre-season thing.

Guess they fooled me into forgetting!
