But the bloody severed head isn’t worth censoring?
Impressions:
Not terribly surprisingly an almost entirely setup episode done on the cheap after the effort put in last week. The first half of the episode was pretty much all talking heads and being maudlin. I guess there was the half-assed slaughter to… I don’t know, show how badass the new guys are by having some complete unknowns job to them? Does that even count? They did find some spare change in the couch at the very end for a slight overture of an action scene, but it was still pretty weak and I really see no reason why it was done “over there, somewhere else” instead of, say, in front of the protagonists for the extra impact, shock, whatever. It was a very uneventful episode without much worth mentioning at any rate. The protagonists putzed around until moving to Next Designated Combat Area and some more grunts were set up and summarily dispatched except for the real boss fight… to come next week. Maybe.
They also decided to bring back the bad slapstick for a moment or two, so there was a bit of a regression there. Not much, but if the humor was a bit darker and more sardonic, it’d fit so much better. Hell, just do some actual trashtalking instead of narrating abilities and life stories and that’d be a perfect replacement. I’ve perused the Games of Chairs, Professor Whos, Buffy the Vampire Hunters, Preternaturals, etc. Humor and an extreme body count can work perfectly fine together when handled deftly. You’ll notice the lack of pratfalls and gong ringing to signal a funny scene in any of the above. I guess that might require some wit though.
Next Episode:
Apparently the boat’s going to be the entirety of next week.
