Akame #06 — Rated E For Everyone

August 10th, 2014

Thanks, broadcast censorship!

Impressions:

Oh the budget. And the censorship. And the pacing. The first five minutes of this episode may as well have been an entirely different episode altogether, so I guess we’ll just ignore them since I doubt anybody cares. The sad part is that there was a lot of potential here for a thrilling action packed episode, and don’t get me wrong, if the entire show had been like this episode, I’d like this show a lot more. A ten minute fight scene with actual effort put into it, no bad slapstick shoved in anywhere, and nobody stood around glaring at each other whilst pontificating about their powers.

Which is not to say that there’s not plenty… plenty of room for improvement. They certainly could have lead up to it in… well, really any way, perhaps those five minutes before hand, guys? And the death scene was corny as all hell. They’re trying to be shocking and brutal, yet her death scene was filled with whining violins, over a minute of retrospective montage alone, and just kept going on and on and on. They clearly expect the audience to feel something for her death, I assume based on those ten minutes last week, most of which was flashback, but the counterargument to that is “At what point has she ever been important to anything or anybody that would make me care?” The answer, I suspect is “Cause she diiiiieeeeed.” The censorship also did not help matters at all. Yeah, I know that’s probably mostly the broadcaster, but yeesh, was it atrociously obtrusive this week and just made the usual awful ‘evil stills’ or whatever you want to call those horrid things about ten times worse since all you got was awful overreaction faces to screens covered in either black or blazing white.

Next Episode:

Nice hats.

  • ZakuAbumi says:

CR airs this uncensored in case you’re interested. You can always go for their rips as well. Sure, you won’t be quite as punctual as with your raws but going by how that hasn’t been the case for plenty of shows for ages now due to your employment, I doubt anyone would notice (or care).

  • wtfwtf says:

I couldn’t watch this censored. But yeah, cheap and manipulative but the legions of fans will be screaming ‘told you it was daaaark’ nonetheless.

    • Yue says:

…I just didn’t expect this. Here I thought; oh, a sisterly figure! just what Tatsumi needs right now while grieving over his two childhood friends.

Then this kind of moment in anime happens, [sigh] I just wish I have real-life coworkers that I can share and discuss with.

    • adamus says:

nope im gonna wait till the death count goes up son

  • Yue says:

    SHEELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

…..darn, even if the fight’s all awesome, the perma-death is somewhat too much to bear. I will not complain. [ tears overflowing ]

  • algorithm says:

This episode was pretty nice until the violins started playing and idiotic drama started flying everywhere.

Justice was easily one of the most enteraining characters of the manga (that dog is fucking awesome, giant scissors? that’s alright, “pinch gun”? now that’s just dumb, and lame, also shut up Mine). Sheele was pretty much the opposite.

  • Sanjuro says:

That was stupid. She cut off her arms, then her stumps instead of killing her. She just said 2 minutes before “your dog thing will stop if we kill you”. So instead of killing the stumpless girl a few centimetres away, she runs to the dog.

Blah blah drama whatever, that was dumb.

    • Chipp12 says:

      Yeah really agree.

      • aklik says:

lol it don’t work that way…
you need to kill master and than run from the dog
bio-teigu is not some radio controlled toy, it is like cyborg with good AI, master’s death only prevents it from taking new orders

  • The Phantom says:

The uncensored version was waaaay better. And sicko girl was awesome hopefully she will keep killing named people in the next episodes. Hopefully machine gun girl is next I hate her already.

  • aklik says:

and yes it was plain stupid, scissors that can instantly cut anything were blocked several times by plain tonfa-guns…
    it was awful
btw I don’t get what’s wrong wis violins?
