Akame #05 — Annoying PETA

August 3rd, 2014

I like that girl more than the rest of the cast already.

…Aside from the next episode preview showing that’s not going to last.

Impressions:

This episode was a complete mess of random scenes simply slopped together without any thought whatsoever. About half of it was mostly angst time with Purple, who simply spat out her stupid backstory out of nowhere, for no reason, and utterly disappeared for the last third of the episode. They also padded things out with the hilarious bit that the magic eye lets him see the girls in their underwear. Didn’t even have the wherewithal to go for the painfully obvious homophobic gag. Just cashed its chips on “lol bras and panties” and called it a day.

Then the second half decided to split its time between meat chewing and introductions to a couple different characters. The first of which seemed like she’d be important or being set up to be the next antagonist, but after her 45 seconds of screen time, utterly disappeared. The one who took up the last couple minutes of the episode is a bubbly airhead (buddy of the previous antagonist) who makes a springy sound every time she moves. Her casual animal abuse may be the funniest bit of humor that the show’s managed in its entire run. That’s… not really saying much.

Next Episode:

Blonde girl episode and anime revenge.

  • Atmo says:

Esdese will be a pain on the ass in the near future because all those forgettable, but noise, Esdesefags hiding everywhere.

    • The Phantom says:

What is the correct translation of her name?, the wikia says is Esdeath.

I would go for Esdese, even if they sound similar, Esdeath sounds way too much like that FF boss.

      • Aroduc says:

Transliteration is iffy since Japan’s character set doesn’t map one to one to English’s. Her name is エスデス (e-su-de-su), but Japanese doesn’t have a strictly ‘th’ character, so ‘s’ stands in for it. It could just as ‘correctly’ be transliterated as Esudesu, although that’d be pretty silly since it’s almost certainly meant to be a western name. I wouldn’t write it as Esdese though. To me, that’d indicate that the second ‘e’ is long, which it’s not.

  • doomentio12 says:

Esdese is the only reason for see this crap.

  • Jabba the Hut says:

The sequence of the above two comments made me laugh.

  • Fate says:

Esdese is a decent character. All the other villains in the manga are flat and boring.

  • The Phantom says:

From the preview, that girl went from nice ally of justice to completely sicko in time record. I like that!

  • Yue says:

Just how many are Esdese fans?

    • algorithm says:

      Anyone with good taste.

    • Shinji103 says:

Anyone who likes a hotty that’s also a torturing, murdering psychopath who tells her soldiers to rape and torture people as a reward.

Which is quite distrubingly a large number of people. Being hot is one thing. But I’d sooner shove a hot poker in her eye for all the crap she’s done (and continues to do) than date her.

      • The Phantom says:

“Anyone who likes a hotty that’s also a torturing, murdering psychopath who tells her soldiers to rape and torture people as a reward”

Fuck yea count me as a fan!
