Chaika the Coffin Princess #04 — Kick The Chamberpot

April 30th, 2014

Apparently it’s Especially Terrible Writing In LN Adaptations Weekâ„¢.

Sorry I’m slow. 15 minute meeting lasted 70 and then traffic conspired against me.

Impressions:

Another largely uneventful episode. They could have skipped basically the entirety of the first ten minutes and nothing but some slight waffling and 3 seconds of foreshadowing that Chaika’s either been hanged or has otherwise not always been in firm possession of her head. They discussed whether or not to ask her to fight, then asked her to fight. Great work. 15 minutes down.

I thought they were going to do quite a bit more when they walked into the completely empty and obviously abandoned mansion and it was full of pictures and statues of Blondie but they just shrugged that off until it was time to kick over statutes and reveal that she was actually the world’s most delusional dragon. At no point in this show has it once put forth the convincing argument that violence and the using of magical beasts is something people do not do and/or want to do. And then she was a little helium sucking girl. And no sooner than a big long speech about how someone was the world to her, to the point where she built a house filled with pictures of her, she just goes “Eh, whatever. Screw this. I’m gonna travel with some hobos as a cat!”

At least the action made a brief reappearance this week after its vacation last week.

Next Episode:

Oh good. Those guys again.

    Abridged, Chaika.

    Chaika ?

I don’t know if is the horrendous pace, or that everything has been rushed and properly explained, but I no longer give a damn about this characters:

Saboteur sibling reasons for following Eyebrow girl are non existent, sabetour girl suddenly going brocon is just as out of nowhere as it could be (prob due to rushed material), lets not even mention helium girl reasons to follow them and conveniently becoming a loli love interest.

Is ok to have things unexplained and explain them little by little but not like this this is just poorly done and rushed to no end.

I had more fun watching humans splatter against the wall in Sidonia, that was fucking epic.

      It’s both.

  • Hey says:

At least this isn’t a LN adaptation based on a stupid harem school comedy romance ecchi LN.

  • ark noir says:

You mean the [insert whatever] turned into a teenage girl. I didn’t see that coming.

  • O-(-'.'Q) says:

This series is starting to disappoint me as an adaptation, mainly because they’re trying to make Toru more sympathetic and it’s resulting in worthless scenes. For instance, in this episode that conversation about not fighting her happened because Toru wanted to try and poison Scoda and kill her without conflict, while Chaika thought they should reason with her, giving the scene actual purpose. And this isn’t the first time they’ve toned him down, like when he finished his fight with bloncie’s subordinate and completely made out as if he had killed him in order to put pressure on blondie and crew.

Also Akari is wooden, but then she always was. She’s a non-blood-related Little sister archetype, but at least she’s not a proverbial childhood friend.
