Bloom and Polka Dots #03 — Obliviousness

April 17th, 2014

Going to keep stewing in attempts to be emotional, huh?

I’m not going to cover it this week, but I’m still kind of on the fence about Blade and Soul. It’s operating right now for me in a very Blood-C kind of way. The plot is bloody boring, the characters are chores, and it’s nigh unanimated besides the action scenes (and awful CGI). The fights themselves aren’t good enough to salvage the other 19 minutes of tedium each week though, so there’s a good chance that I’ll pay as much attention to it as I do the new Lodoss parody shorts. Nanana’s second episode was so blegh that I’m already tired of talking about it. Other things I gave a cursory second glance to were similar.

Impressions:

You know, show, if you’re going to make jokes about silly girly stuff spawning pink fluffy backgrounds, perhaps it would be best to not also use those self-same cliches you were just poking at. The comedy’s still really not working all that well though and the new character from the end of last week was barely even around until the last segment and even then didn’t do anything amusing. The split segments were especially grating this week too. It was practically a smash cut between the end of the second and start of the third with naught but a rolling head.

I still can’t say I’m sold on this one either, but between all the stuff on Thursdays and Fridays this season, unless Date A Live brings out its A-game tomorrow (we’re grading on a heavy curve), this is looking like the least tedious way to spend 30 minutes on a show. I am planning on covering a game (trial) tomorrow regardless, so we’ll see how things go. Maybe I’ll expand.

Next Episode:

Polka dots become stars.

I’m still astonished that you are trying to stick it out with this one.

  • dororoninpo18 says:

so you’d stick with this for 3 weeks, but jojo gets dropped?

  • Chipp12 says:

    Demonion 2, right?

  • anise_punter says:

I can’t take the attempts to be emotional seriously, so it ends up making the show funnier. I like what I’ve seen.

Character designs are so off-putting though, not in the Horizon sense but in a different way.
