Future Card – Buddyyyyyyyfight #01 — Police Brutality

January 3rd, 2014

Because that’s the way the narrator says it.

Impressions:

There’s something a little disturbing how the lizards appear to have some kind of Greco-Roman society where they stand in verdant meadows, sweaty and pinning each other to the ground, then standing back and looking over at their friends while straddling their fallen foe. Or maybe I’m reading a little too much into 5 seconds of the OP. Then again, the main lizard, who looks like someone’s iguana got savaged by the cast of “Pimp My Motorcycle” spends his days apparently breathlessly watching small children.

Also, this world’s police appear to be a 13 year old boy who summons dragons and then jumps out of a car, leaving it driven by nobody, to fly to the top of a roof in order to arrest a guy with a hammer. The guy has a hammer, he’s not arresting him using a hammer. That would have probably been much better. I don’t even know what that helicopter landing pad was for either. There’s no stairs down. How’d he even get up there? And I think summoning a 10 story tall flaming sword to attack a guy whose only action the entire time was to stand there holding a hammer seems like it’d be asking for a police brutality lawsuit.

Good god, all this and I haven’t even reached the halfway point where they start introducing all the wacky friends with hair even Lady Gaga wouldn’t dare try? Well what do you expect, really? Spikey headed fiery hero banchou-wannabe and magic cards that can bend time and space used for children’s card games, right down to the obnoxious screaming female announcer. I chuckled a few times, but it certainly wasn’t with the show. There’s just something about hearing them try to pronounce “Thousand Rapier Dragon” and character designs that look like someone just hit “Random” on an MMO character creator and went with whatever insane thing it spat out. It certainly rivals Basara for most gratuitous use of exhaust pipes on an animal that desires to be ridden hard by the protagonist, and if that’s not exceeding all expectations for this show, I don’t know what is.

Next Episode:

Yeeeeeeeah, no.
