Yada Yada Hero and Boobs #02 — And Now, Angst!
October 11th, 2013
Oh boy! That’s sure what I was jonesing for!
Impressions:
Boy, that didn’t take long to abandon what could charitably be called its strengths and get angsty. Not to mention what chunk of budget there was at the start of the first episode for a whole lot of nothing. There was even a mournful solo violin wailing as he was berated about giving up on his dream. Oh sure, there was a four minute or so aside with a axe-wielding moron and I would have found having to shoo away giant magical wasps amusing had it not instead been an excuse for angsty flashbacks, but here we are. With dreams, and feelings, and she’s actually trying super duper extra haaaard with swelling violins and twainging strings and tears in her eyes. It didn’t stop them from flirting for a moment with the misunderstanding that she left instead of started living in an apartment instead of like a transient in their lounge either.
So yeah, it was a pretty big step down from the first episode. The entire first half was pretty much a snoozefest with some monologuing about the setting that can be summarized as "it’s magic!" and even if you want to believe that it’s important, the fact that they did absolutely nothing with that information this week just shows poor writing. If you’re going to exposit something, then for god’s sake, at least make it relevant in any way. And if it’s not, why not save it until it will be? Or better yet, just not do it at all. I doubt his little "Yeah this turned out okay" internal monologue means that we’ve seen the end of the angst over giving up on his dream either. Can’t wait to get to that with the extra bitchy girl!

If you’re reading this, then I’ve forgotten to change the template.
