Strike the Blood #02 — Empty Trains and Vanishing Men
October 11th, 2013

Great mysteries to contemplate why the show’s busy doing nothing.
Impressions:
Nothing says "exciting start to an episode" like a 40 second pan in a flashback. Anything that opens with nearly three minutes of talking heads has done something wrong from the very beginning anyway. The only thing that kept me going through the atrociously boring and directionless first 17 minutes was the promise of scythes and bloodletting later, and let me tell you, it was not even close to worth it. Ye lords was that cheap and boring. Just a tour around the women henpecking him, but since we can’t even do that quickly, it’s a grand total of two. I’m not saying that they need to be out saving the world already, but good god, a little structure and direction to the plot would not bloody hurt here. You can’t build a show on "Uh… here’s a character for no reason. And another I guess? Whatever."
I also enjoyed the utter lack of caring she showed for the train she was surfing (from the residential area!) before it crashed to its explosive death, although that probably comes second in "things we’re supposed to ignore" to the guy she saved literally disappearing into thin air after she blocked the blow that was supposed to finish him off. Heck, he’s shown a few steps behind her (which would mean that the blow she just blocked would have missed him by a good four or five feet or so) and then in the very next shot, she’s spinning her spear and backing up over where he was. Maybe she julienned/trampled him.
Next Episode:

Main girl is easily the cutest girl of the season.
