Chronicles of the Going Home Club #12 — Clearing Bin
October 10th, 2013
Should have just ended the show early like they wanted. Would have been the most clever thing it did.
Impressions:
Well, this was different…ish. When the ‘best’ joke is just repeating the same one they used in the first episode, the limbo bar can’t get much lower. After that, it seemed to be a clearing house as they did as many segments as possible. Granted, not dwelling on them was probably a better thing than stretching any one to four of them out, but this was very clearly pulling from the dregs. I wonder what the show would have been like if the whole thing was like this though. Certainly a lot more like a certain sex comedy that has long since run its jokes dry in spastically jumping between topics and whatnot after every gag, only without the sex. And a lot of the animation. And Suzu. And Omigawa. Although it does still have more than its fair share of VAs that don’t know what they’re doing. Botan didn’t even fight a real bear this week either.
Final Thoughts:
I’m hungry.
Yes. That’s about it. In the blitzkrieg of the new season, I’m sure this somewhat below mediocre and poorly produced comedy is already forgotten. It had a couple moments that were almost worthy of chuckles, but never seemed sure how to capitalize on its jokes and instead played it safe, boring, tired, unambitious, and unmemorable the whole way through instead of trying to build and expand in any way. And that’s how it will (not) be remembered.

“I’m hungry.”
Vintage.
Speaking of that certain sex comedy. It just got greenlighted for a another amine season. You may unload your overwhelming joy now.
