Beyond the Boundary #03 — Attack of Vaginaface
October 16th, 2013
It was eaten by a furpile.
Impressions:
I can’t help but wonder what this would be like if not for Kyoto Animation’s involvement. It still wouldn’t be good. Christ no. Teenage angst, flashbacks, whining cries of "You don’t understand me! You could never understand me!", etc, but I still have to wonder what it might have been like had the setting actually been dark. Something more like Ga-Rei Zero or Tokyo Majin where the monsters are actually killing people, cutting off heads, eating girlfriends, blowing out their puppets’ brains, and messily murdering parents instead of doing gag comedy with buckets on heads before it tries to go 180 a scene later and with zero impetus and turn them into tragically scarred teenagers fighting against their horrible, horrible inner darkness. All the meanwhile remaining rosy cheeked, fumbling over their blossoming adolescent feelings and generally being the unkillable most awesomest shiny supernatural people ever, hated for being too special even while they whine about how it’s a curse.
Wait a minute. Have I been watching Twilight? God damn it, Japan.
I’d also call the chainsaw gun another example of trying too hard and the end result just being ridiculous, but I’m fairly certain Gears of War did it long long ago. Maybe it lives on for another week. I can say now that I have little desire to continue following these morons, but at least the end was kind of engaging. I somehow doubt that I’m going to get the catharsis of seeing anybody actually getting knifed that doesn’t immediately heal from it with a cry of "Protagonist Power!" though, and even then, it’ll just be a boring body wound. Someone cut off a head and let’s see how immortal this schmuck really is.
Next Episode:
Bizarre visual effects.

“Someone cut off a head and let’s see how immortal this schmuck really is.”
But! But! But that might kill him! … we wish.
