Gatchaman Crowdssu #10 — NeO HUNDReD

September 13th, 2013

All capitals makes you cool! Except Es. They’re for posers.

Impressions:

Seeing the deadly terrorist group write their name like 4th graders as NeO HUNDReD just makes me laugh. Actually, many things in this episode made me laugh. Such as the Crowds ferociously charging up to whose his face and then milling about, giving him time to make his little speech. Or how its continued bipolar approach to violence. Rarr! They’re menacing a bunch of buildings! Quake in fear! At least the Noise chomp on actual people, and even they’re just cannon fodder that I’m already sick of seeing. Their cheap knockoffs that even less of a threat badly fighting CG people sure as hell aren’t going to cut it, no matter how much the music swells majestically. Especially when the protagonists don’t even need to attack them, just touch them, to turn them into big dice.

Aaand it’s certainly not helped by the second half of the episode mainly being about Joe and Pai getting their grooves back. Joe, okay, maybe, he did have something at some point, but he was always destined to be the ‘badass’ who jobbed to the enemy to give them credibility. Pai is just a permanent joke that was never funny. And, uh… that’s really about it for the episode. There’s not a whole lot else to say. The action wasn’t particularly good, especially for budget friendly CGI, it was all against helpless cannon fodder that still has yet to give anybody even a booboo, and the whole thing was basically just twenty minutes of "Gatchaman’s so awesome!" A declaration that has been in doubt maybe all of once back when a side character jobbed to a clown. Huzzah.

          the good:

-the dark spirits are really cool

-I’d say most of the comedic stuff was pretty solid (bolin, the twins, asami and the movie guy)

          the bad:

-Korra’s dad and uncle. It’s the kind of braindead on the nose melodrama (capped off with an extended flashback!) that dragged down the first season as well. Korra’s uncle is such an obvious bad guy that it’s kind of moronic watching everybody dance to his tune. This was kinda most of the story for both episodes too, while asami just gets swept aside for the second part.

-the relationship stuff hasn’t really gotten any better, even with mako and korra together.

It’s still a very flawed show whenever some kind of gorgeous battle isn’t happening.
