Daybreak Illusion #10 — Fire! Bad!

September 7th, 2013

This was certainly an episode.

Impressions:

I feel like I missed about three episodes. As I was watching. Were-Luna jumps right over to being an antagonist without any real fanfare on anybody’s part, takes away the powers of the girl who has thrown herself full force into fighting being her entire world, the two side characters who have little point run into their dopplegangers, Akari starts fighting solo, becoming more and more psychologically damaged by having to kill the monsters she can still hear by herself, and that’s just the first half of the episode. Okay, so the second half of the episode just had Akari almost get brain raped (and close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and sleeping bags) and revealing that magical girls, like Frankenstein’s monster, are weak to torch bearing mobs.

As usual, it’s easy to see how this stuff could have worked out really well for the characters and story, especially since they seem to have found a giant wad of cash to just go crazy with the fights this week, but even with too fast being better than too slow, and being flashy as all hell through it, blasting over all that in approximately five minutes once you take out the action is far far too fast to give it any weight or impact. It’s not like the show lacked empty wasted episodes it could have used for it either. Or the somewhat inane second half and draggy second half here even. I really like what it’s trying to do, but the execution remains just sort of mindboggling.

3 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

This show has story pacing issues from the very beginning. Seriously, I don’t see how it will wrap things up decents in the supposedly 2 episodes left. My gut feeling is that there will be another season or the manga/LN has more detail that the anime is missing.

Laplace is a *great help* – “That is US Government classified information!” says Laplace. Snowden would have been more useful if he released information about the Leguzario instead of being stupid.

there is 13 episodes in this show not 12 so i think they will be able to wrap things up in the last 3 episodes

I’d be willing to forgive their desire to drag this for as long as they can if they were less greedy with the daemonia boobs.
