Sunday Without God #09 — Russian Hobo Birthday Cake
August 31st, 2013
Yuri, that was pathetic.
Also, why does he have baby chicken oven mitts exactly? And since all he does is cook, clean, and drive them around, he’s becoming disturbingly indistinguishable from a soccer mom.
Impressions:
And this arc comes to an utterly nonsensical end. I really have no idea why they even went to the school. To pick up Alis? It’s been bothering me for a while now, but I also liked the show a lot more when the magic and… uh… ethereality? was a lot more subtle like the first arc, and not magical exploding clone ghost gravekeeper crystal ghost past-reflecting magical door things. I feel like some… most of the magic is gone lately and as much as I’d like to say that it feels like it’s trying too hard to be all mystical and otherworldly, it’s more like it’s not really trying at all and just wholesale jamming random magic in and calling that good enough. I liked it a whole lot more when it was understated instead of this obtrusive.
Meanwhile, Scar’s whole deal for running off doesn’t even begin until 21 minutes into the episode. The ED begins to play less than 45 seconds after that as everything’s immediately better once the baby is shoved back in her face and now they’re a reeeeeeeeeal family or something. This also makes it the second arc in a row where Scar’s problems have literally nothing to do with everything else going on and are then resolved by shoving a baby in her face. I think we’re in a rut here.
Next Episode:
Alis stuff.
