Gatchaman Crowdssu #07 — Pai Taxi Service

I really hope this isn’t a temporary thing.
Impressions:
Where the ever living hell did this episode come from? I can only assume infernal assistance because the alternative is probably that they blew the entire budget for the show on this episode. Action packed with the characters actually doing something besides ramble at each other about how great Habbo Hotel is or that the internet might not be trustworthy. And doing something even involved fighting evil with super powers. If the rest of the show can keep this up, I’ll be very pleasantly surprised. Still not up to what Symphogear’s been using as Noise filler, but about forty rungs up the tier compared to where the show’s been for a long time.
There were still plenty of issues though. The sudden resurgence of blood everywhere and it trying to be viscerally gory after it being comically absent for most of the show continues to amuse me. Episode flow and tone was pretty wonky too, particularly Hajime’s chripy nonsense at the end. Who could have imagined that would contrast poorly with their (thankfully brief) attempts to be all dark and bloody with Joe half turned to hamburger? And there’s the usual anime issue of cutting away from a fight in progress was some really awesome exposition, but after baby steps here after weeks upon weeks of nothing but exposition. The choreography, or more specifically, that the entire fight took place against "chains from off screen" got a little lame. I think it’d also be pretty hilarious if driving people around was the only thing Pai ever did with his abilities. It very well may be for all he actually contributed to the episode as usual.
Next Episode:
If you’re reading this, then I’ve forgotten to change the template.
