Rozen Maiden #04 — Jun Service

July 25th, 2013

No. You shouldn’t have. Really.

Impressions:

I think this may be it for me. In the last three episodes, the most exciting thing has been Jun going fabric shopping with a golem sequestered in his backpack. Perhaps if they had something interesting in the preview to look forward to after the ‘cliffhanger’ of Spiderdoll crawling around, but no. They do not. They have the opposite of that. More goddamned tea, staring, walking around mostly empty rooms, and Jun reading magazines. No, Deen. Bad Deen. What’s the matter? Did the recap first episode scare you so much that you were afraid to have anything else happen in the rest of the show? Christ. I wouldn’t even call the first season well-paced and still managed to get to multiple dolls fighting, plus dog puppet detectives within the first three episodes. Even ignoring the recap episode, so far, you’re to "dolls" and even that only just barely.

And what the hell were you doing with her eyelashes at the start? Did whoever was coloring that entire scene just forget that they’re not blonde? A fluffy creepy blonde at that.

Next Episode:

If you’re reading this, then I’ve forgotten to change the template.

9 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

Sorry, but It isn’t deen’s fault. If you have to blame someone, blame peach-pit for the unwound world arc. The episode itself was a good adaptation of the 2nd manga

    • Aroduc says:

No. It’s not a good adaptation at all. An adaptation adapts the material to a new medium and presentation format. You probably meant to say it’s an accurate xerox copy of the manga. But the manga was not meant as either the screenplay nor the script for an animated cartoon.

      • algorithm says:

You tell that to Japan. They’ll probably tell you to watch Aku no Hana though.

        • Chipp12 says:

No, he’s right, because the extreme examples like the 1st season of Medaka Box where they were using manga as a storyboards and script actually exists.

      • Annoymous says:

You are just so hard to please

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

See “Unlimited Complaint Works” hidden in Fate/Kaleid Liner. Cannot be bothered saying the same repetitive thing.

Have not watched nor read desudesudesu anime/manga but here are the two extreme POV:
          1) 1:1 adaptation – original purists are happy, anyone who hasn’t read the orignals finds fault.
          2) Massive adaptation decay – The purists are outraged, some of anyone else are happy. The court tenders Exhibit Galaxy Angel as evidence.

Then Option 3: The middle road – which basically is a lottery.

  • Athos says:

I remember back when you praised Ika Musume for having an entire episode of her miniature version just wandering around like a small animal in complete silence. Was there really none of that for you here? Because I swear to god that is the only reason I’m watching this for right now.

    • Aroduc says:

I’d think it goes without saying that the two shows do not have anywhere near the same tone, expressiveness, or presentation. Not to mention that watching pathetic Jun shuffle around in dark rooms is not even close to the same thing.

      • Athos says:

Hm… I don’t know if that was the intended effect, but watching Shinku trying out Jun’s shoes evoked the exact same emotions from me. Well, even if it wasn’t, I’m pretty sure it’s not the magic doll battles from episode 1 what I’m looking forward to right now.

…which is another way to say I’m pretty sure I’m heading straight into disappointment with this show, but hey.
