Golden Mosaic #01 — Torturing My Native Tongue

July 6th, 2013

Please. No more English.

I glanced through the Milky Holmes pre-air special. It does have some extra preview clips, but is mostly the usual affair of VAs blathering. Given my current computer situation, I’m going to forego ripping them, but they exist.

On one hand, this is probably the comedy that I’ve laughed the hardest at so far this season. On the other hand, I wasn’t laughing with the show. That would be difficult because it doesn’t actually make almost any jokes. The reason I laugh though, is that most of the opening sequence is in English, or at least they’re using English words. I’m not even prepared to defend that statement either as some of it is just flat out incomprehensible. It’s not just English either, it’s corny English. "We can understand each other if we try to understand our hearts." Not a direct quote. I refuse to go back and search for it.

Production’s average at best, more often far below that, in art and animation. Direction’s an utter wash. It couldn’t look more like a generic 4 panel adaptation if it tried, and I’m not even sure if it is. I have a very short memory. There are a couple bizarrely overanimated moments, but they just highlight that nobody here knows what they’re doing. The ‘nice’ music isn’t even that nice, and the jokes are just drawing characters with silly faces and putting them on a splash screen. "She overslept and didn’t wake up when told to! Guffaw!" Bitches. Don’t even bring that weak crap.

Somewhere in Japan is a director saying to himself, "There’s girls! I put music with it. What more do you want!?" How about a little effort?
