Gatchaman Crowdssu #02 — Fashion Disasters

July 19th, 2013

That prisoner shirt should be banned by law.

Some day, this will be broadcast at its scheduled time and then pop up relatively promptly. Not so far though.

Impressions:

The action sequence, brief as it was, was at least a rare step up from the first episode, but I think some of the normal-time animation took a little bit of a hit, or at least, I don’t remember the mouth syncing being quite that horrible last week. Maybe it’s just my imagination. They’re going to need to start fighting/taming something other than hovering evil rubix cubes though. Thankfully, the last quarter or so of the episode did start to hint at other antagonists… not a one seeming to conform to gender norms, which probably means something about someone… but the only thing between the scissors throwing at rubix cubes and… uh… more rubix cubes, was a whole lot of stupid, not in the good way, and questions about both their collective poor fashion and Hajime’s mysteriously disappearing breasts. Perhaps her school uniform has a padded bra built in.

Speaking of her, Hajime turns out to not be exclusively notebook obsessed but obsessed with whatever the last noun was that caught her fancy. At least she can spin those scissors with the best, although whatever the hell they thought they were doing with the train collage clan, they weren’t. The whole chemistry between her and Grumpyface is just kind of poor and annoying in general, especially compared to pretty much every single other character in the show, even the origami vampire that groped her. We get it. She’s dumb and acts silly. That was clear about three minutes into the first episode. Let’s have some team up episodes between her and them instead of continuing to harp on him constantly yelling out his surprise and incredulity at her behavior. Also, you don’t get to have a miniature floating space panda taking orders from a vampire who plays with paper along with an underaged coworker who never dresses in more than approximately two napkins worth of fabric and get to have someone acting like everything is supposed to be super serious without them instead be super annoying.

I ony watch it because of GATCHA http://tenka.seiha.org/images2013/gatcha2/51.jpg and her ridiculous enthusiasm.
But then there is faglord http://tenka.seiha.org/images2013/gatcha2/37.jpg and his ridiculous shirt.

I don’t know what’s your definition of “dumb”, but to me, Hajime came across as eccentric but really smart in this episode.

    • Athos says:

I don’t know about “really smart”, but they were clearly trying to establish that she’s not the complete dumbass that she appears to be.

It doesn’t change the fact that she was acting like an airhead throughout the entire episode, though, which I guess could become irritating after a while.

    • Aroduc says:

Spazzy, ditzy, thoughtless, take your puck.

      • Lin says:

But that’s the point. She’s not thoughtless. She’s exactly the opposite. She always observes and thinks the best possible course of action. Her attitude is really over the top and that’s why she seems like a ditz, but it’s only on the surface. Deep down she’s totally aware of what happens around her. That’s pretty clear in this episode.

    WTF is it ?

  • jingoi says:

I wonder how many people are watching this just for Utsutsu and how many are pissed this is gatchaman in name only.
