Valvrave #11 — Post Traumatic Stress Time
June 20th, 2013
What I’m having trouble understanding is how the writing keeps getting worse.
Impressions:
So… we begin this week with Goofus going into post traumatic stress terrors from seeing boobs on a poster and nearly falls to his ‘death’ down stairs. His rape victim then takes him to a bar and forces him to make her espressos before dragging him to a private movie screening of herself. There are Greek myths involving one party turning into a golden shower which have more sensical reationships than this. Also, the pillow fort girl had a screaming fit in the middle of things, but since she was unceremoniously dropped from the remainder of the episode, apparently it wasn’t important.
Anyway, stupidity du jour is the evils have Shouko’s father. Something that I’m sure would have had more impact if she or any student really, had ever previously been shown to care about their families, or even have one really, instead of "Yay, school! Yay, us! Teens teens teens!" Or perhaps with a character who wasn’t shown to be a naive, ignorant moron utterly oblivious of everything going on around her. Heck, this probably would hae worked better with just some random other character instead of one that’s had so much focus. We’ve been through "Now it’s PERSONAL and SUPER REAL," too many times, show, and trying to do it yet again with the most brainless and oblivious character isn’t going to cut it. And I’m already preemptively groaning at what fresh melodramatic hell waits after Goofus killed her father, despite him being savagely beaten by space Nazis at the time. Thankfully, there’s a whole break between seasons for my bile to stew.
But you know. I have to admit that I laughed like a goddamned moron when Goofus asked Saki to marry him at the end. Christ.

I would pay to watch School Days for the first time again.
