Project Code Name: Wolfram Maraschino Karate Bugle

May 2nd, 2013

I think that might be the subtitle of the next Rainbow Six game.

The road thus far…

Where the future lies. I wrote a lot more here about this (and in the previous post about everything else), so am kind of all written out about this for a while.

Whatever happens at this point, happens. C’est la vie. I don’t plan on saying anything more about it here for at least a couple weeks and I imagine the end result will either be depressing or elating with no middle ground. Go tell your friends and family. Or make chocolate marshmallow fondue. That stuff is bloody amazing.

And let this be a lesson to anybody trusting a Canadian bearing what it claims to be inside information about my clandestine affairs.

Edit: Well, I guess that’s the end of that. I’ll figure the rest out later.

  • Delstius says:

Well I hope this project will go well. Interesting choice btw, I love the artist.
It’s nice to see that it took form and I wish you luck with it… as you’ll probably need some.

Didn’t even know you were working on Seinarukana for JAST, that’s also a very pleasant news.

  • invinciblegod says:

I think you put the funded limit a bit too high. If it was like $200, it would have been easily funded. Also, wasn’t Jast supposed to localize Seinarukana? Did that fail or are you a Jast employee and I just never noticed?

  • herkz says:

    >Did that fail or are you a Jast employee and I just never noticed?

    It wasn’t exactly public.

  • sage says:

Aroduc will you love me again if I donate 25 bucks?

  • Sanjuro says:

Can you include a reward where you draw a Galaxy Angel for us?

  • Bocam says:

What version of Romanesque are you translating? The original or the Perfecta edition?

    • Aroduc says:

Latter. I’m also planning to incorporate the (extremely short and unvoiced) free downloadable side story. Or just distribute it separately if my mojo on the engine doesn’t work.

  • Anonymous says:

This is one of the most tremendous examples of “grey area” I’ve ever seen, from a relative KS project guidelines violation to a possible C&D. Oh well, I’ll give you some money. Right near the end, that is, if this survives somehow.

    • herkz says:

Yeah, but there’s no risk for you. You’ll just get your money back.

      • Anonymous says:

To be precise, on Kickstarter your credit card isn’t charged until the Kickstarter completes. If it’s canceled before that time, you never pay any money.

  • someone says:

A brave step in the right direction. I wish you all the luck in the world.

  • nightshadow2239 says:

Whoo hoo! As always, thanks Aroduc. Now about that chocolate fondue…

  • Aroduc, can I ask you if you believe Aaeru’s eloquent summary of the project to be accurate?

“he is literally buying a license with the pledged money to produce an english patch. So on the Japanese side of the deal, the monetization is through the license for allowing the creation/distributing of a patch, not through the selling of copies. and Aroduc is not selling copies (for he is not). So if u are not monetizing through printing copies, and u monetize through selling Aroduc’s labour, piracy doesnt even come into the equation.

    …unless it does.

    Because.

Because piracy piracy piracy piracy PIRACY!!”

    • herkz says:

I don’t think anyone gives a shit what she thinks.

    • Aroduc says:

That’s very not true. Not in the slightest.

If it was, it’d make things a lot simpler, but probably also significantly more expensive.

  • Anonymous says:

I come in a day late and you’re already at $1,356.

Looks like getting the funding wont be hard.

    • Anonymous says:

You never know. Like with game releases, day 1 is by far the most important. After the first day, there aren’t nearly as many people pledging.

For example, the Kickstarter for ‘The Icarus Deception’ raised $178,000 on day 1, but ended up with ‘only’ $287,000. It’s the exception rather than the rule, but with most projects only getting 2-3 times as much pledged overall as they get on day 1, this KS’s day 1 success is no guarantee for a successful outcome.

  • Longhaul says:

oh man I live in Milwaukie, small world.

  • Anonymous says:

Congratz for clearing the kickstarter goal!

  • Majaraja says:

Congratulations, Aroduc. Also, project backed. I hope this comes to fruition. Now you could make some funny/credible strech goals.

  • KeyBoard says:

If you don’t mind clarifying, this is Project B, right?

Project is A is cancelled because of developer apathy/vague antagonism?

    • Jikorde says:

Project A is Romanesque, Project B was his alluded game from his birthday post, and the new project B is Seinarukana(the one that just reached 50 percent recently).

At least that is how I understand it.

      • herkz says:

        You would be correct.

        • KeyBoard says:

I see, it’s too bad about the original project B then.

I think the problem is not piracy. I think the problem is some Japanese companies simply do not want foreign attention whatsoever.

I think a good first indication is to see whether or not their website blocks foreign access.

  • marvelous stan says:

Holy crap I was hoping this would succeed but I wasn’t betting on it. Let alone in a couple days.

  • Anonymous says:

Just to be sure, if LWR is funded, do you intend to work on it while also working on Seinarukana? The wording on KS was a bit vague.

  • robert says:

Yesterday I read that the pledged amount had instantly increased by several hundred dollars, and someone thought it could have been a troll trying to damage the kickstarter by pledging a huge sum only to withdraw it at the last moment. Today I just saw the sum going from 2850 to 2550.

I hope people continue to back Aroduc’s project in order to make its goal safer, since there could be other people playing pranks like this.

  • Tipit says:

Sorry but I only changed the amount of my pledge because the amount of $ 2500 was obtained. The new amount I put still exceeds the 250$ and the deadline still 11 day ahead.

  • Arthur says:

Damn, they DMCA’ed the project… so, what is going to happen now?

  • fate1122 says:

you should now completely translate this now too shove it up their asses.

  • Raptor says:

    i dont get it -.-
they had no intention to release it anyway…..a**holes

  • robert says:

Aroduc, can’t you establish a donation button and keep track of what you’re given? Using kickstarter seems to be impossible for projects such as this, but private funding should still be fine. Even more, you won’t have to give part of the sum to kickstarter and the pledges would be paid immediately.

  • deadFreak says:

I contacted Oyari Ashito on Twitter, and I’m gonna paste the timeline for those who want to say something about this problem.

If you want to contribute in Japanese language, good for you. I’m sticking to English.
