Senran Kagura #06 — Return of the Sushi

February 10th, 2013

I knew it couldn’t stay gone for long.

Impressions:

Like Problem Whatsit etc, mostly done in by its production, or more accurately, lack thereof. It could have been a cool action packed episode, but lacked both the direction and the budget for that. Things would have been much better served had it pooled its budget and focused instead of half-assing it the whole way through. They clearly know how to do it. You could see it in brief 3 second chunks, usually at the very start of fights before the speedlines and stills took over.

It also lost a lot of steam in the middle with just about everything relating to Hibari/Haruka’s ‘fight,’ which they couldn’t decide if it was a joke, a fight, or a torrid lesbian threesome and ended up being none of the three. The flashbacks of ‘development’ injected at random in the middle of events didn’t help matters much either. At least they’re continuing to not focus overly much on those. Not that it makes them any better, just not as obnoxious as they very easily could be.

Preview:

Back to animal molestation.

7 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

12 episodes with bas fights and pure fanservice ?

  • I didn’t expect quality story telling or compelling characters from this series, but I did at least expect decent fan service and they aren’t even delivering that.

    • Anonymous says:

So bikini-clad kunoichis are not fitting to your tastes in fanservice?

      • Mickey says:

They’ve been a regular occurrence throughout the show. Fanservice isn’t just about what their attire (or lack thereof) is, but the characters’ actions in the situations they’re placed in, for example.

  • By the way, how did Katsuragi manifest a bra when her shirt got shredded? It sure didn’t look like she was wearing one up to that point.

Guess I’ll be the token one who actually enjoyed it.

I LOVED the first few minutes because Katsuragi’s bleeding face just says it all: a female actually looking beaten and look awesome-ly badass. About time anime does that, and it actually felt pretty intense.

And the the Hibari/Haruka fight surprised me, too. Mostly for how funny it actually was.

And budget issues? Eh, not that annoying, really.
