Maoyuu #02 — Wherein She Finds a Bra

January 11th, 2013

Hell, she looks downright flat in some shots. Guess the budget ran out already.

I sort of napped through the first 10 minutes of Inaba’s second episode and my thoughts remain unchanged. While there’s no shortage of jokes, almost none are handled with any level of competence. Without being funny at all, and having no strength whatsoever in the production, I’m not sure what’s left for it. Here’s the OP if you’re curious though.

Impressions:

…Although I really can’t say that this was much better. It was just aiming to half put you to sleep anyway, so at least it succeeded there. Apparently the wildly swinging breasts were the entire hook and with the audience reeled in, they can now get to the real meat, nothing. Which isn’t to say that the breasts aren’t still there, just not flailing around anymore like they were attempting to escape. The subtext of that being that the characters also pretty much stopped moving when they began talking. I’d say it was a parade of talking heads, but half the time when the particularly obnoxious exposition started, the heads were offscreen for maximum economical conservation. The romance was sure fasttracked too. I kind of wish they were spending a little more time and effort on that. At least it would be something.

Hopefully the last of Friday’s shows will have a little more oomph to it.

I guess this was the obvious Aroduc reaction.

Anybody would quickly run out of money trying to animate (or even draw) all that useless meat.

the outfit in the first ep was picked out by the head maid, who insists on dressing maou up to show her body off. her own taste in clothes is plain, and as established, she doesn’t particularly have pride in her looks. sexy clothes will show up next time head maid picks the outfit.

also, the more romance-y stuff trickles in more a little further on; across the various adaptations they don’t exactly leap to third base in short order or anything.

anyway. much as I’d love to keep seeing screenshots of maou’s rack, I imagine aroduc isn’t going to want to stick with this. after all, it’s a talky/semi-intellectual thing, which never goes over well with him.

I voiced a complaint on Random Curiosity about this episode and was told to kill myself. I think I have taken for granted the raw cynism of Tenka Seiha.
