The Monster Next to Me #06 — Nothing Happens

November 5th, 2012

Again.

Impressions:

Not to call doom and gloom, but between this and the last episode, it looks like we’ve firmly entered the doldrums of the middle where absolutely nothing is going to happen, not even minor life lessons anymore because that’d give the illusion of character development and we can’t have that! And with two thirds of the episode centering around the wallflower character that could’ve been pulled from any of a billion schlocky girly romance shows whose entire schtick is to ‘comically’ silently overreact to note that a joke has been made and/or give an inner monologue about everything (the greatest form of characterization possible!), you know that I’m thrilled to the bloody core. I’d rather watch the chicken go on adventures. Who knows, since we appear to be in time wasting zone, maybe that will happen. After nearly an episode and a half of her, I still have no idea what her point is supposed to be… so… uh… stellar. They seem to have completely forgotten that they introduced her as pitiable bullied character too, which would annoy me more if it wasn’t par for the course.

The last third at least got rid of her but was still firmly in "We have to fill this time, but can’t risk anything even vaguely meaningful happening." So they go on a ‘date’ to the library while the side characters sit around in a circle and mope. Exciting. Go build another death house for the chicken or something, guys. At least that way you can pretend that something’s happening.

So going by your impressions, the best comedy of this season is a KyoAni show? What madness is this?
