Young Justice: Invasion #10 — Cassie Still Sucks

October 14th, 2012

Oh, Cassie. Are you ever going to succeed at anything?

Nobody really knows why, but apparently the entire DC block is on hiatus again until 2013. After a whole two weeks back. But due to the last second cancellation, this episode ended up going up on iTunes anyway and CN has ignored it, or maybe forgotten about it. There’s a good chance they’e being run by baboons.

Impressions:

Again, I feel a little underwhelmed by the big pile of reveals, and particularly with all the shots of Virgil without him actually doing anything. Yes, I know it’s Virgil. I can see that you’re teasing this ‘random’ kid as important somehow. Maybe at least show his powers starting to spark or something? Instead, we use Shimmer to show their experiments were affecting latent powers. Shimmer. Sigh. Just about all the ‘big’ reveals were just really kind of plain though, or maybe it’s just the knowing that nothing’s going to be followed up here for the next three months. It’s the Reach, they’re researching super genes, and we’re going with the scarab as being their thingy as far as the multiple Blue Beetle origin stories go. I just expected a little more than the obvious. The whole "Reach reveals themselves to be peaceful" ‘twist’ at the end right after liberating a dozen or so ‘normal’ kidnapped/tortured people/witnesses also seemed a little silly. I guess they’re all just going to go home and say nothing about it.

MM mindraping Aqualad like a sadistic idiot is a lot more of an interesting development than pretty much all of the rest and actually does do a good job setting up question about him actually switching sides at a later date, not to mention whatever Dick and Artemis are going to have to say about her continuing to mindrape everybody at the drop of a hat. The action remains fairly solid too. Black was fine, although he probably could’ve used a little more of the scarab’s wanton love for violence. So could have the scarab too when given control. That was disturbingly free of unneeded collaterol damage.

4 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

Baboons? I think you’re giving them too much credit. Try lower in the evolutive scale.

  • Neclord X says:

    “Baboons”? won’t you mean Gorillas?

Megan mindraping Aqualad was the only good thing in this episode.

Batgirl without mask? Tim with sunglasses is weird but still has sunglasses, but isn’t supossed Batgirl indentity to be secret?

Suddenly Blue beetle is related to final boss, that was…also quite curious

Batgirl isn’t technically under Batman’s “employ”. She’s more of a freelancer. If she wants to tell people who she is, that’s her business, so long as she doesn’t compromise Dick’s, Tim’s and Bruce’s identities.
