Young Justice: Invasion #09 — Eviscerate Them
October 6th, 2012
Yes. Listen to it. Cut them in the eyes.
Impressions:
As usual, Jaime the Scarab was the star of the episode. More things do need to be eviscerated. There is no overkill, just open fire. I’m not sure how or why it ended up using mace-hands when it finally took him over though. Wasn’t it advocating a hot plasma bath not a moment before? The rest of it… Everything was just too predictible. I half expected the bomb to be the way he was going to pass along information, but it ended up just being the old stanby of a drive in a punch, which is even more cliche. Or maybe it’s that both Icicle Junior and the Terror Twins are too ridiculous and so far down on the villain C-list to be taken seriously. They’ve somehow made Sportsmaster turn out okay, but these guys… not so much. I don’t even know what the point of Mal and Bee was in the episode other than to pad out a couple minutes.
It ended on such a lame attempt to wring out melodrama over the situation. Secretly a triple agent? Seriously? No actual evidence or anything. No futzing up Nightwing’s plans in some seemingly incomprehensible way. Just suddenly… "what if he is?" Sure, it’s been months for the audience, but it’s been like… only two actual episodes since Artemis went off to be a double agent and this was the first thing she did. Hell, I thought they were just going to go with "The cave had been compromised a long time ago, now triply so since they’ve busted into it. It was best destroyed anyway," but apparently not. Meh.
