Total Eclipse #15 — Big Boy Feelings

October 14th, 2012

God, Yuuya. Are you ten years old?

Impressions:

Uneventful setup episode. I’d honestly rather they have tossed up some kind of actual excuse, even flimsy, for this new arc apparent and let the audience come to the obvious conclusion that it’s suspicious rather than begin with characters going "this is pointless and makes no sense." Pointing out your own bad writing doesn’t excuse it, and if Yuuya’s noticing it, then we’re far past something that’s merely painfully obvious. The scene in the briefing where they were teasing him about his big boy feelings for the busty girl he already spent a night half naked with was… stupid, but that’s nothing new.

So yeah. Nothing special really. Mock combat mixing in all the races, and by all, we just really mean America, Japan, China, and Russia. But hey, it lets us revive Yuuya’s mixed race issues too! So fan-bloody-tastic! I’m not even sure that the country China was fighting against at the start was even identified. Let’s call it the Vatican. They have a long tradition of incompetent armed forces in anime. The Scarlets continue to be terribly handled. I don’t even know what the hell was going on between Cryska and Yuuya. They only interact once every four or so episodes and every interaction seems more determined by a roll on the random encounter table than anything sensical. Maybe this training thing will give them an excuse to finally fight or show Yuuya how they are in battle after ignoring that for… uh… the last 14 episodes.

The guys the Chinese were fighting at the start were identified for people paying frame-by-frame attention, as in they were sporting Egyptian air force roundels.

    He’s 12, not 10
