Little Busters! #02 — Social Retardation

October 13th, 2012

Ugh.

Young Justice (and all of CN’s DC Nation block) is off today for last minute issues… and apparently for a while? I don’t even know what CN’s doing. Apparently nobody does as the producer of GL:TAS was freaking out on Twitter over it earlier. I also have no idea when Sei*zon will pop given it’s only being streamed on NNV. If Ebiten from last season is any indication, it’ll take pretty long.

Impressions:

Another mostly boring as sin episode. It did get significantly better in the last five or so minutes and wasn’t as insultingly cheap for most of it, but it was still pretty damn cheap and the direction remained utterly nonexistent. All of the stuff about Rin being a social outcast was also just moronic and reminded me of all those horrible harem shows that begin with "I never had any friends" and three episodes later the entire cast of Blossom is fighting over their manwich, but in this case, we began with her getting along with a bunch of different people then rewound things to try and say that she doesn’t get along with people. It might have worked at least a little better if they hadn’t overplayed it so painfully and just made her socially shy or given it some impetus instead of going straight from accosting random people to join their baseball team to running away screaming when confronted with the terror of another person, but alas.

Besides, that the two other things in the episode were Komari’s intro, and her entire deal is just "I’m a lovable imbecile with a squeaky voice," and the first hints about the world’s true nature. And by hints, I mean delivered with a sledgehammer. Great to see that we’re already hitting the terrible melodrama so soon! I don’t find Komari cute or amusing though and her shrill voice annoys me. Probably because everything about her is also delivered with the subtle grace and creativity of a sledgehammer to the face. At least she makes the director spend a little effort putting some energy into the show for whatever reason. It got all the way up to looking like a bad Jump show from the 90s at times!

Nice art, JC Staff.

14 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • ZakuAbumi says:

    But… but… but what about Jojo’s?
It had more telling than showing, a CG opening, insane directional choices, was noisy as fuck and the animation was as cheap as you’d expect from a JUMP show. All the things you love. You can’t miss out on that!

    • Aroduc says:

      You forgot English prog rock.

      • ZakuAbumi says:

        All the better.

Seriously, though, that can’t be any worse than the generic incest anime with more sex jokes than actual jokes.

        • Aroduc says:

Is it really though? I could just grab the original source, shake my laptop and yell at it to get 95% the same experience.

        • ZakuAbumi says:

Yeah, but mumbling “Sex. Sex. Sex. Sex. Sex. Hey, I just used that indecent word. Funny, isn’t it?” all to yourself doesn’t sound all too tempting, either.
Now that’s certainly a fierce competition. But one of the two of them has MEN FAR TOO MANLY TO FEEL ANY PAIN going for. Now isn’t that fabulous?

Besides, aren’t you into ridiculously overblown stuff? Or has the “freshness” which made you last through episode 1 already worn off?

  • ShuffleAir says:

Dang Seitokai being late and all.

Will you be doing a premiere wrapup today or tomorrow then?

    • Aroduc says:

      Tuesday.
Open day, although I’ll probably do it during football anyway.

And yes. It took Ebiten’s first episode almost 10 hours to show up. We’re at about 6 hours so far for Seizon, so… Just like the old days of 2007 or so.

  • U.Renko says:

Ah c’mon Komari’s voice is not that bad.

But that aside, doesn’t this whole thing feel like a huge, and I mean HUGE copy-paste from the VN?
That Kyosuke’s “battle starto” for example. I’m 97.8% sure they just grabbed the VN audio file and re-used it.

    • Gorilla13 says:

That bitch’s voice and the main gal’s manic lesbian obsession with pussies make the whole thing stink worse than spoiled natto.

  • algorithm says:

Not yet dropped? I was under the impression this one didn’t leave much to desire last week.

  • redlupine says:

The male lead is the one with the mystery key sickness? What a twist.

  • anise_punter says:

Natsume’s voice is way worse than Komari’s. Good lord that is not a good voice.
