The Aesthetics of an Antihero #09 — Closeups of a Campfire
August 30th, 2012
Wow, was this stretched out as all hell.
Impressions:
That whole intro scene was hilariously terrible. Between the closeups of the campfire, the closeups of Pinky’s eyes, and the content being particularly insipid "we’re all friends and GASP, maybe some of us care about Akatsuki and know he’s not evil," the whole thing was a special brand of terrible. Of course, they could’ve then taken Antagonist Du Jour showing up as a chance to at least try to show that he was strong by beating them up. I’m not actually sure why they didn’t considering that fat lot of absolutely nothing that happened for the rest of the episode. Instead of anything with a point, they just cut past it and had Antagonist A fight Antagonist B.
And by fight, I mean rant at each other. There were only three actual attacks I believe, two of which Antagonist B batted away by standing still and wind exploding around him. I choose to believe it was not flatulence. You may not wish to if it helps make the episode more amusing. Antagonist B also spent literally the entire last four minutes with Pinky pinned down under him in the rape position as they argued with each other. Yes, fifteen bloody percent of the episode was her pinned down crying and seemingly about to be raped. I guess the pans over her body and terrible sexualization of that scene were probably better than more closeups of campfires and eyes, but it still couldn’t hide that they were doing everything that they possible could to stretch out the end to an episode that should have already been only about 5 minutes.
Preview:
Really cheap fight.
