Student Council Officers #16 — Summer Doldrums

April 25th, 2012

Bless you for trying, Suzu.

Impressions:

Oh right, that show that somehow continues to exist, pops up every six months or so, and forcefully reminds me that Omigawa Chiaki has yet to be eaten by a bull elephant, she’s just great at doing an impression of someone whose brain was. As always, it treats cohesion and flow like four letter words. Got 45 seconds to fill? Here’s a brief bit at home before we go right back to school having utterly forgotten what the last couple minutes was about. If you removed the transition shot between the punchline of one joke and waiting for the next joke to be set up, the episode would’ve probably been about 10% shorter. And of course, if there’s nothing that makes a comedy better, it’s a continuous rhythm. 3 seconds of transition, 25 seconds of setup, 5 seconds of waiting for the punchline to sink in, lather, rinse, repeat. I don’t know why they don’t just have a countdown to the punchline in the corner of the screen at all times. How about breaking out of the four panels a little bit? Or at least don’t throw up transition shots constantly.

But anyway, I’ve said it all before. This episode had even less Suzu than usual, one of the few geniuinely amusing things about the series in the later going since jokes about her tend to have actual setup and visual cues instead of just being "School yada yada yada summer yada yada yada yada yada sexual nonsequitor" *musical stinger, splash background* They could at least give us some eyecandy if they’re going to do a ‘summer’ episode (as much as any episode of this show is themed), but apparently no, it’s not even good for that. Jerks.
