Sengoku Collection #03 — Shut The Hell Up, Naoe

April 19th, 2012

Why are Kanetsugus always so terrible?

Impressions:

And in this iteration, we have Kenshin and Naoe. The former has seemingly effortlessly adapted to the modern world, becoming a model and drunkard while the latter is her nagging housewife and pet lesbian in denial. And then the second half begins with a flashback to when they first arrived in the modern world, successfully eating up a chunk of the episode while showing absolutely nothing before then having another flashback montage so Naoe could explain how hard it was. I can totally tell by how you spent the first half of the episode showing the exact opposite. And then she ran away into the melodrama rain because Kenshin didn’t understand her real feelings with more flashbacks and exposition yada yada everybody makes up, grows wings, and Nobunaga pops up in the last 15 seconds to take their heart widgets.

I’d also be lying if I didn’t say that the giant chins weren’t especially bad this week, but the absolutely episodic nature of this show with practically nothing carried over from week to week really isn’t doing this show any good. The lack of creativity isn’t helping either. If you’re going to tell some horribly cliched story from start to finish, you could at least make it a creative one. Sadly, this has been anything but. Resetting the characters each week doesn’t hide that, it just adds to the issues by not having any actual common thread connecting one episode to the next.

I’m not sure I’ll make it another one. They ran the premise dry in the first episode and this is just grinding it into the pavement until it’s a stain on the ground.

  • MAR-KLAC_VELOUS DE-KLAC-CADE says:

so this week ep we had Kanetsugu & Kenshin give already adjust in modern world & yet also YURI in it too!!!

ok with mam noto & mai nakahara in it (yea got wonder if partner in yuri aka mam’s ayako & mai’s Ai Shimizu will be in it too?)

oh another cameo Nobunaga get another treasure & next ep is date.

  • Kefit says:

This ep was slightly better than the first two simply because it had two real characters instead of one. And they kind of had a nice rapport going too.

But he utterly nebulous nature of this series renders that kind of thing meaningless. Who is the intended audience for this show? Why does it even exist?
