Not Space Bros #02 — Fails the PreCure Test
April 7th, 2012

"Naked space man" seems like something for Saint Seiya, not here.
Non-Impressions:
I only made it halfway through the episode before it failed the PreCure test… as in "I’d rather be watching PreCure" right now, although that might have been influenced by a hapless drunken Canadian I duped into watching the most recent episode. To its credit, it did cut out the endless drone of music that left my ears ringing last week. On the other hand, the visual humor from last week was all but gone and the general animation quality did its best impression of a sperm whale and bowl of petunias dropped from orbit. It continued to move at an absolute snail’s pace, although it looks like a couple things did happen in the second half. But for the first. "Here’s a CD with Mutta and Hibito written on it in children’s writing. Here’s a trumpet being played badly. Here’s kids arguing on it. Here’s a flashback. By the way, this is a recording of when you were a kid." THANKS. I’m not sure I could’ve pieced together all the clues. Yes, I get the whole reconnect to childhood thing.
How about you pick up the pace here? Sitcoms, shows known for doing nothing, usually have enough going on to have B and C plots while still advancing the overall story and characters. And doing it all with an entire cast too. Having a billion episodes is not an excuse for having only one singular story for one character and then streeeeeeeeetching it out for an entire year by having characters literally sit around and think about the past. Not because of any actual stimulus. It’s just time for some flashbacking.
Anyway. I’m out. It’s not really my kind of show anyway and everything I liked about the first episode was utterly absent in the first ten minutes. I can no longer watch this without thinking to myself "Man, I could be getting drunk and watching wet PreCure characters molest wolves and motile clown-houses instead."

I’d be surprised if anything this season beats the ‘PreCure test’. Even for you.
