Persona 4 #22 — Love and Peace
March 8th, 2012
That shirt is ridiculous.
Impressions:
Eh, the first half was all right. I like what they did with the fight, having Mega-Messiah take over members of the party and fight each other, although it was pretty much all just Yuu vs everyone, just switching who was free and who was being controlled at a designated point. Having ghost Dojima pop up to let him summon Kohryu to destroy the control thingies was a bit over the edge of corniness though. I was also expecting a lot more focus on Namatame/his shadow and the whole messiah complex thing instead of being pretty much tossed aside to go right into Mega-Messiah. The love and peace t-shirt is also far more ridiculous here when it’s being worn by a 70 foot tall Super Jesus. Maybe some of that time later spent on shenanigans and shopping could’ve better been spent actually giving the supposedly big boss his moment, eh?
The rest of the episode though was pretty bleh like many of these episodes in the second half have been. I’m not sure why they didn’t just go straight into them ‘recovering’ at the hospital. Having a time lapse and everybody pretty much chilling out while also going "Hey guys, think something’s up with this mysterious fog" just undercuts what could be some driving emotion into the critical later scene with Namatame. I know the game more or less went like this, but they’re not restricted by game mechanics here and having ramen happy fun time tossed between "Huh, fog?" and "NANAKO’S DEAD" coming right after "we solved everything! Super awesome Scooby Snacks for all!" doesn’t work so well.

NO!!! Loliko’s dead?!!! The world can’t survive.
I would think this was a crap adaption if my knowledge of the game came from actually playing the game and not from reading wikia’s.
