Shana â…¢#12 — Eel 2.0

December 23rd, 2011

Oh wait, it’s clearly a snake. It has spikes.

And why was the title card halfway into the episode this week?

Impressions:

If the series had been stronger… or it wasn’t going on break for a week, I’d probably be more excited about this episode. I do think it was better than the vast majority of this season’s, make no mistake about that, and it gives the appearance at least of actually going somewhere, but still has the same old complaints as always, particularly the endless endless endless yammering. Sabrac in particular this week just wouldn’t shut the hell up and fight. Even when he’s supposed running around getting bombarded by three different people, he still had time to go on and on and on at length while calmly running in a straight line for a good 45 seconds or so at a time, and they had the time to reminisce fondly about their previous battle against him and recap his abilities.

Then when Shana finally gets to Yuuji about 5 minutes from the end she spends the entire thing talking about how she cares about him with I think the entire full-length ED playing underneath it. We’ve covered this ground already, at length. We don’t 5 minutes on "I love you, and I think reviving ancient evils is bad, mmkay?" And even if you were excited about that, it goes straight into a preview containing basically none of either Shana or Yuuji. Like I said, if the show had been stronger, I’d be a lot more excited instead of expecting them to immediately be interrupted or stopped by something or instead of an episode dedicated to Yoshida finding a new man to fill the void in her… life.

And like almost everything else, it’s off next week for the holidays.

Preview:

Shana turns into a glowing bird.
