Maken-ki! #10 — Voodoo Woman

Can’t go wrong with limb-snapping.
Impressions:
Now that the show’s in its last month, they finally started to actually go somewhere with… like… everything… and surprisingly, it actually wasn’t that bad of an episode. Not even in the ironically "so bad that it was easy for me to derive enjoyment by mocking it" sense either. This was probably the best episode of the show to date. Still not good, mind you, but about on the level I’d expect from a better show like… say… Ikkitousen. It was too busy actually trying to cram an actual story in that it didn’t have time for any of the truly horrible antics and just had to content itself with the random panty shots here and there from the camera being shoved up the cast’s crotches. Since they’re cramming it all in so quickly too, they’re not dwelling overly long on the mechanics of MAGIC or whatnot either. It’s actually kind of refreshing, especially knowing that what waits for me to watch after this is going to be filled with insecure, angsty, bawling whiners.
Let’s see what we had this week then… Minerva shows up, immediately picks fights with/flirts with/befriends (sometimes all three) half the cast, random puppet woman snaps some punk’s limbs until Takeru steps in, so she tries to kill him, Takeru finally started actually trying to use his power, Minerva’s provides some actual unironic amusement, and there were a couple fights. Still lame and hardly animated, but at least some limbs got broken. That’s about eight steps up from the usual pants-only violence this show has espoused and some conflict that doesn’t revolve around someone’s crotch for once. It’s a Christmas miracle.

That childhood friend whose name I don’t give 2 sh1ts reminds me of Houki, and Moka, and other 1st main females I hate, that’s bad, means another obvious ending for the whole series. Can’t wait to barely listen to the plot while pressing FF to find scenes of main interest.
