Guilty Crown #10 — Old People Making Out

December 15th, 2011

Oh good, we needed antagonists like that.

Impressions:

Oh boy, angst time. I say that like it’s ever not been angst time as far as Shu is concerned. He’s taken it up to the next level though, hallucinating that people are diseased, screaming at them and calling them monsters, and then clutching his knees and running off by himself to cry. And have flashbacks about Inori some mysterious pink-haired girl from the past. On the upside, that meant that much of the second half was completely Shu-less. On the downside, it didn’t get any less stupid than usual. Clownface finally actually used his foreknowledge of everything about Gai to do something. Not plant a bomb or anything, but let him into the giant plane, lock the doors, and then crash it into his own base. Sigh. Then he makes the widget that they just brought into the baddy lair go berserk, begin ‘singing’, and the disease goes crazy all over Japan while random characters, some of which haven’t even been introduced at all, go "Just as planned."

But wait, there’s more. We still have our other new characters for the week besides the ones looking out over the city, about half a step away from swirling wine and cackling like Dracula. GC continues to defy all logic and brings out a new pair of antagonists who can’t keep their hands off each other. GC’s twist on it? The guy’s some old soldier boffing a middle-aged scientist. This also pisses off Daryl for some reason, but I’ve long since stopped trying to pay attention to who is supposed to be related to who. Hell, when they showed the bomber that they made a huge deal out of breaking out for his super-weapon and half the cast instantly wanted to kill him, my reaction was "Oh yeah, that guy existed. What ever happened to him?" I’m not even sure what their point was. All they did was make out and then gape in surprise when the thingy started ‘singing.’

And then there’s this shot. A slap apparently so hard that it actually physically broke all the characters involved.

Do you know what can make GC be a great show? A recap episode!!!

    • Aroduc says:

20 minutes detailing every inane thing this show has done sound like the comedy event of the season.

  • Nanaya says:

Hahaha, she slapped him so hard the viewers were knocked into picasso perspective. Why isn’t she on the frontlines!?

  • K says:

I think this is probably the first show where I can agree with you that it’s horribly, horribly funny.

  • Anise_Punter says:

“and the disease geso crazy all over Japan while random characters, some of which haven’t even been introduced at all, go “Just as planned.”

This show definitely would be better with ~geso.

I liked this episode; it was really satisfying watching a girl in a wheelchair basically call Shu a piece of shit for trying to play the “oh poor me” card. That’s probably not what they intended to be remembered from this episode.

  • The Phantom says:

Could the male lead be more pathetic? At least it seems that at the end a lot of ppl died and things were set in motion for whatever next arc is.

  • TMH says:

I’m sure I’m not the only one getting vibes of “old Eva Shinji” off of Shuu here. Guess IG decided that this generation needed a new worthless wuss of a hero?
