Fate/Prototype ‘Promo’ — Delicious Pigeons

December 31st, 2011

Ah yes, from back when Nasu was obsessed with glasses.

This was included with Carnival Phantasm’s third volume as an extra. It’s basically an 8 minute promo for how Fate Stay/Night was originally written. There’s no actual project on it. Type/Moon just has lots of money to throw around. Only the intro is cohesive and the rest is just full-on promo, although I’m a little disappointed that only the main couple Servants from the start and end were shown. A lot of this was already known stuff, like male Saber, female protagonist, and some of the other Masters. The introduction itself is also pretty similar to FSN itself, although this far after the fact, it’s likely at least 50% fan pandering. It’s funny to see Neo-Gil actually using a bow though, even if it is just to open up a Gate of Babylon from orbit.

Anyway, it’s short and kind of interesting if you like the general Fate franchise. More animated than certain other things I could mention too, not to mention more character and development in its brief span than forty exposition laden minutes of pure tedium. Okay, soap box back into the closet. Now to just wait for Carnival Phantasm itself to actually show up. All of its extras already have.

8 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

From the looks of it… most if not all of the masters are batshit insane? Dang.

  • sterling01 says:

Did they call male Saber, “Saver”?

    • Anonymous says:

Yeah he was called that, but then F/E came along so “Saver” actually came to mean something. In there, they’re the messiah archetypes. So whatever.

  • Anonymous says:

Well, not all. The priest is. Lancer’s master is more of sinister person, the dying girl is not crazy at all ans Ayaka is pretty normal. The rest weren’t shown.

Also, since this was written before any other work, save for Angel Notes, maybe, these characters are proto-every-character-made-by-TM, not just prototypes of F/SN characters.

      • Anonymous says:

Yeah, I see a bit of some of the TM characters in the prototypes, sans Notes. Probably the most obvious was the part with the dogs with striking similar features to Nero’s.

  • Yukipon says:

This is probably what F/SN would be if it had the same atmosphere as Kara no Kyoukai.

They can’t expect people not to want more of this, after giving out so much of the story. =/
