Maken-ki #03 — Hot Springs, Boners, and Bears

October 18th, 2011

This is working for me. I think I’m betting better than the full Make-ki experience.

Impressions:

You know, ‘watching’ this worked out perfectly. I got home from class, turned it on, got myself a drink, a sandwich, and by the time I actually sat down and paid attention, the inane introductions to a billion new characters as well as the horrible action scene were all over and it was just girls groping each other in hot springs. The sum and total of my impression of the first half is some girl fighting a giant guy who has the power of being hard. I did, unfortunately, catch the tail-end of a "girls give guys boners" joke. What were they expecting anyway?

And then they fought a bear.

With one of the girls having the power of making wood really long and sturdy. Freudian does not even begin to cover it. Another successful day for Maken-ki.

Preview:

…And then everybody goes shopping.

I hate to be the one to point this out, but Freud’s work has long been discredited in academic circles. After all, a cigar is really just a cigar. Come on Arudoc, step up your references!

You know, it would really suck to be a bear in Japan.

…I wonder if the bears actually are a metaphor for Russia, and Japan is just preparing its youth to face off against a revived Soviet Union.

    With Gundams.
