Hidamari Sketch xSP #01 — Dead Man’s Float

October 29th, 2011

How did Hiro end up on the top there?

Impressions:

I guess it was about the same as always. The first half about visiting the art museum was better than usual and very reminiscent of GA Art Class at times, but the second half at the pool was a little weaker. It did seem like Shaft was having a hard time remembering what Nori’s bust size was supposed to be throughout the episode though. Plus the pool episode got a little creepy once they put on their caps, effectively removing their only distinguishing features, especially given how they’re drawn without any eye color half the time.

For the first bit, they wandered around an art museum and commented on or aped the exhibits in various ways. It’s not exactly the high point of comedy or even Hidamari Sketch, but it was a little of the wacky humor spread out through the entire cast instead of just Miyako doing strange things and the other characters giggling. The second half though, like I said, was rather boring from being quite formulaic. Plus, how do you have a swimsuit segment without either Yoshinoya or Hiro? If that’s not sacrilegious, it should be.

I just got off the phone with the Pope and he confirmed that this was indeed sacrilegious. Shinbo might be excommunicated very soon.

It would be out of character? Since her whole life is cosplay, wouldn’t she wear anything but a swimsuit to the pool? Swimsuits (with optional apron) are for the classroom.
