C³ #05 — Bondage Armor
October 29th, 2011
Maybe she’d have won if she stopped vomiting all the time.
Impressions:
Well, it certainly started strongly, but after Fear kicked Borovoi in the teeth, everything went a little pear shaped. It felt like they were blasting right along, perhaps even a little too fast with the reveals about Kirika and Borovoi’s death, but then almost all of the last half was pretty much all an idiot lecture from Kirika. I’m not sure if the director stopped caring at that part of what either, because it was easily the dullest segment of this show so far, even including the painful parts of the first episode. Kirika was indeed the one who showed up in the middle of the night last episode whose arm they cut off, although she claims to just be trying to keep her fellow students safe. Hopefully it’ll stay like that, but since this is Japan, I can only assume there’s some tragic flashback-laden backstory waiting in the wings beneath the immortality bondage leather.
Then the ED played at about 19 in and what followed was sex dialogue about Haruaki and Fear "sticking it in" and "how tight it was" and "how she fit all of it in." I couldn’t have stopped myself from cringing if I tried. So, like usual, some really great parts that show how much promise this could have, some writing/pacing issues, and some things that make my brain ache for the sweet numbness that comes only with copious amounts of absinthe.

So based on this episode, Mummy Maker really is dead then. Wow. I thought that because of the night attack from last episode because it showed her retrieving the arm that was cut off, Mummy Maker was actually (somewhat) immortal and was going to show up at some point. But that person turned out to Kirika. So I just fell for a red herring that wasn’t really there.
