Yuruyuri #11 — Alternate Personalities
September 12th, 2011
I don’t think that a whole ton of thought went into this episode.
If you’re curious about the Breasts show… it was a… flashback episode. Japan’s just doing it to piss me off this season at this point.
Impressions:
I don’t even know if you can even call the first of this a flashback episode. It was more like some bizarre alternate world where everybody is a foot shorter and has completely different personalities. Kyouko’s a shy crybaby, Yui’s licking the other girls, Chinatsu is a giant bully, and the water fountains are capable of ejecting a stream about 20 feet away. That seems like it would be dangerous. More importantly though, it was lame. At least it was only half the episode.
Perhaps worse, the plot for the second half is that Kyouko lost her mojo after bumping her head so it became your usual montage of character who think they like the new non-crazy version, then change their mind after they realize that it’s not ‘normal.’ That also meant that a fair amount of it was also consumed by characters brooding. It also looked like they were gearing up to have a finale cliffhanger of Nu-Kyouko shutting down the club until Yui had to give her little speech in the last thirty seconds or so and then beat some sense into her. I was already mentally shaking my fist though. There was just waaaaay too much melodrama in there for this show. On the up side, it may have been the first joke with Chizuru that was actually kind of funny. Not particularly funny since it was just that she was traumatized by Kyouko not trying to mess with her, but that’s a whole second joke for her.
This episode was also animated suspiciously well. I’m not entirely certain why. Maybe they shook the couch cushions and a few animators fell out. There were also a couple places in the episode where someone tripped over the color balance knob too for about 5 seconds. That was amusing.
Preview:
Lesbian dream sequence ending.
