A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives #09 — Test of My Patience

September 2nd, 2011

This morning’s shows have not put me in a good mood.

Just as a reminder if you’re not one of the five people who reads the Cat Gods post later today, just like its first season, Working!!’s second season’s first episode airs a month early (ie, tomorrow). God help them if it’s an Inami episode.

Impressions:

Bleh. Another painfully stretched out episode that went absolutely nowhere for 20 minutes. The test of courage part was probably the worst simply because it ate up probably half the episode and literally nothing happened in it at all. I think there was more time spent explaining it than actually doing it. The only two things of note, if you can even call them that, are that Haruka told Taito that she liked him at the end in front of Himea and Hazama did… something… to Taito that gave him an instant seizure that nobody else seemed to care about in the slightest despite everybody’s attention being focused on him. I guess that those antagonists they showed lurking around back in like… episode 4… also had their first speaking roles and have been hitting the barrier with things. Apparently that’s stealthy as far as this show is concerned.

Frankly, the only interesting thing about Haruka is that she’s a vengeful servant of moon gods. She can take all her terrible teen angst and cook a goddamned pie with it for all I care. If she was a little more murderous or the other characters besides School-Licker actually knew that she was plotting theocide, perhaps she would have more to contribute than an ever-expanding field of whiny angst that sucks everybody else in.

Just another show with cliffhanger end… I’ll bet that those two “antagonist” are Haruka’s alter ego’s allies in her plot against her creators… The question is if they will become part of the “good guys” in the end or not… ugh…

Man I usually really like childhood friend characters, but Haruka just doesn’t work. The show hasn’t bothered to establish her rapport or relationship with Taito past a couple of scenes in ep1. She’s had nothing to do with anything since then, largely due to the show focusing on Taito and friends chuu2 adventureganza. The result is now all her angst and what not falls flat. As a staunch childhood friend lover this disappoints me a little – there’s definitely some wasted potential here.

Of course this show is too damn silly and random to support any real drama in the first place, so it’s probably for the best.
